Course Expectations

RELIGION:

The Scope and Sequence for Blest Are We is based on the structure of The Catechism of the Catholic Church. Each chapter explores the theme from the perspective of one of the four pillars of The Catechism of the Catholic Church, and every unit follows this same spiral organization.

This thematic, spiritual approach assures that students:

  • Learn the content of our Catholic faith
  • Celebrate it in worship
  • Connect it to their everyday life
  • Learn to pray. Additionally, this approach follows the scope and sequence of the Elementary School Religion Curriculum Student Outcomes for 8th Grade which is mandated by the Diocese of Orange. We will be spending a portion of the year on Family Life. Junior High students and 8th graders in particular, are at a critical time in their development. It is important that each young teen be given the opportunity to discover their own unique gifts and the personhood given to them by God. The traditions and beliefs of the church can be an anchor in a world that is otherwise changing at a frightening rate of speed. You and I play an important role in the growth of your child as Catholic Christians.

HISTORY:

The objective of this class will be threefold:

  2. The students will learn about current issues affecting our world and how many of these issues are in some way connected with our past.
  3. The students will learn how to work in cooperative groups by studying, doing projects, and completing and presenting assignments together, as an integrated group.
